Project Title : Analysing the metallurgical aspects of fabricated parts of construction equipment.
Project Guide : Mr. Rajinder Raina
General Manager (Marketing)
Project Summary :
As a part of summer training, analyzed the various aspects of the Escorts Construction Equipment from metallurgy point of view and in the process came of a realization that just being a engineer, somehow doesn't make a mask. It demands more. It demands being a leader, a fore runner.
Studied the various fabrication methods used at the assembly shop floor, Faridabad facility. With those fabrication processes as a pre-requisite tool, also looked at the various common parts in compactors, backhoe loaders and pick n carry cranes.
The fittings and assembly of the construction equipment parts takes place using the assembly line machines at the shop floor subsequently. Processes like basic fittings, welding, sheet leveling, painting etc and the technologies adopted for these processes were studied.
A metallurgist selects the material and decides the manufacturing process required, thus influencing the cost of production in the market. In a competitive market of emerging Construction Equipment Manufacturers lowering the cost by slight reduction in properties is desirable. Aspects of cost, factors affecting cost and marketing strategies of Construction Equipment were rightly discussed in a number of brainstorming sessions.
Through the visits at shop floor, interaction with the employees & analysts, sessions of problem solving and group discussions, an important non-technical aspect arised. The aspect of emerging as a good leader, the traits of a good leader and how one can emerge as an able and efficient leader were understood.
